1. Austin City Council last week approved the controversial East Austin Plaza Saltillo development, an 11-acre tract between Fourth and Fifth streets and I-35 and Onion Street that includes a mixed-use development of apartments, retail and office space. A three-hour debate at City Hall ensued over how much affordable housing the developer is required to build.

2. An Austin neighborhood 2 miles south of Lady Bird Lake is facing challenges as St. Edward's University next door looks to grow. The new operations building, coupled with the growth in student population and the increase in student parking fees, have Sherwood Oaks residents questioning how much the university cares about its neighbors and how much future growth will impede on their neighborhood. Meanwhile, the university is seeking residents’ input on future campus improvements to ensure the relationship remains strong.

3. Earth Day Austin has teamed up with local business Bicycle Sport Shop and nonprofit Yellow Bike Project to collect, repair and redistribute bicycles in Austin on Earth Day ATX. Earth Day Austin will spend the next several weeks collecting bikes and fixing them in time for April 22, when bikes will be given away at Huston-Tillotson University from noon-7 p.m. Drop off a donated bike at any of the five Austin-area Bicycle Sport Shop locations or at the Austin Yellow Bike Project center, located at 1216 Webberville Road, Austin.

4. The city of Austin is seeking public input for what the rules of the Tenant Relocation Assistance Program should say. The city wants applicants to be required to notify tenants of relocation and wants to specify procedures for collecting or giving out tenant relocation and general policy directions. The public can share comments on the draft rules until April 1.
