1. The Zilker Holiday Tree is illuminated and the city of Austin's annual Trail of Lights starts next week.
Leading up to the Trail of Lights, a 2.1-mile fun run will be held Saturday. On Sunday, the Stars program returns, and 20 nonprofits will bring children, teenagers, youth in foster and adoptive care, veterans, people will disabilities and those who are chronically ill to visit the trail.
2. Last Tuesday, the U.S. District Court Eastern District of Texas
granted a preliminary injunction against the updated Fair Labor Standards Act, or FLSA, scheduled to take effect Dec. 1. In light of the injunction, Austin-area business owners are re-evaluating their plans to comply with the revised law, which would have extended overtime protection to more than 4 million salaried workers nationwide.

A one-stop shop veterans services center is being proposed for Austin. The city’s Commission on Veterans Affairs has until next Tuesday to apply for a funding grant that would be issued by the nonprofit, nonpartisan Meadows Mental Health Policy Institute of Texas.
4. The city of Austin was named one of the top-ranked tech-savvy digital cities by the Center for Digital Government and the Digital Communities program.

5. The city of Austin is holding a panel for music industry professionals next Tuesday at Google Fiber.
