Drive-in movie theater Blue Starlite is closing its Mueller location and reopening in a bigger space 3 miles away, owner and Austin native Josh Frank announced on Instagram on June 21.
The drive-in, currently located at 2015 E M. Franklin Ave., Austin, will show its last movie by July 5. Frank said he’s aiming to have the new location up and running by Aug. 9. Blue Starlite’s downtown location at 300 San Antonio St., Austin, will remain open.

The exact address of the new location will be announced in the coming weeks, Frank said; however, it will be more accessible to residents of north and west Austin as it’s right off I-35.
The new spot will also include a dive bar reminiscent of bygone days, Frank said, adding when guests say Blue Starlite feels like old Austin, it’s the “best compliment he can get.”

“Mueller has been a very special place; the community has given us so much love in the last 10 years,” Frank said. “[But] it's a very wonderful upgrade and a great future home for us.”
