Argo AI, an autonomous vehicle technology company, launched driverless vehicle testing in Austin, according to a May 17 press release. The move marks a step toward the company’s goal of providing commercial driverless vehicle services to ridesharing, delivery and logistics companies.

Argo AI’s driverless vehicles will operate on public roads during daytime hours, amid high-traffic periods for vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists, according to the press release. No human safety drivers will accompany the vehicles.

Driverless service is not yet available to customers, but Argo AI employees can hail rides via a company test app. The company is running rideshare—with safety drivers still present—and grocery delivery pilot programs with Lyft and Walmart in the Austin area.
