Applications open Aug. 19 for direct rental assistance from city of Austin


The city’s second effort to help struggling Austinites pay rent is set to launch Wednesday, Aug. 19.

The Relief of Emergency Needs for Tenants program, or RENT, will dole out $12.9 million to help relieve financial pressure experienced by Austinites who have been impacted by the coronavirus pandemic.

Salt and Time opens new cafe in Republic Square

Salt and Time opened its cafe in Republic Square on Aug. 14 at 422 W. Fifth St., Austin. The new location offers outdoor dining and is open from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. with options on the menu from breakfast to sandwiches, charcuterie boards, beer, wine and cocktails.

New playground at Circle C Metropolitan Park could be finished in September


When local heath officials eventually reopen playgrounds and other city of Austin park amenities, residents in Circle C Ranch can look forward to using a new playground in their neighborhood metropolitan park.

Central Texas Pain Center opens new Bee Cave clinic

Central Texas Pain Center, an interventional pain management practice, opened a new clinic Aug. 3 at 15801 W. Hwy. 71, Bldg. 1, Ste. 200, Bee Cave. The clinic will be led by Dr. Derrick Wansom, who will focus on providing care to patients along Hwy. 71 from Bee Cave to the Bastrop area, according to a press release from the company.

D Pad: New Braunfels gaming store breathes new life into classics

D Pad opened 15 years ago as a pay-by-the-hour video game and local area network (LAN) gaming business but has since evolved into a used game store and event space for various types of social gaming, such as Dungeons & Dragons, Magic the Gathering and more.

CARTS 2nd bus route between San Marcos and Austin to resume service

Capital Area Rural Transportation System's Interurban Express 1517 Gold Bus route with two-way service between Austin and San Marcos will resume on Aug. 24 with a modified schedule, according to a press release issued by the city of San Marcos.
