Leander ISD is seeking community input on a third zoning scenario for Elementary School No. 30 as the school's opening is less than a year away.

Current situation

The district has taken community feedback on initial zoning scenarios to create a third zoning scenario for Elementary School No. 30 opening in August. The new scenario accounts for adjusted functional capacity at North Elementary, resulting in more available classrooms, according to the district’s website.

Community members can now give their feedback on the scenario through community forums and an online survey. A community forum will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. on Dec. 5 at Plain Elementary School.

The big picture

Under the new scenario, Elementary School No. 30 would pull students from Bagdad and Plain elementary schools as in the first scenario proposed by the district. The second scenario would’ve pulled students from Bagdad and North elementary schools.

The third scenario shows some students moving from Larkspur to North Elementary, Plain to Camacho Elementary, Camacho to Whitestone Elementary, Camacho to Bagdad Elementary and Tarvin to Parkside Elementary.

Almost 1,000 students would be impacted by the rezoning, with 552 zoned for Elementary School No. 30, according to district documents. Click here to view the district’s interactive zoning map.

Also of note

The district is on pace to open at least four elementary schools over the next 10 years and an early childhood center in 2026 to alleviate capacity at its northern elementary campuses.

Despite the coming relief, the district is anticipating rezoning two neighborhood codes from North Elementary to Plain Elementary for the 2028-29 school year as projections show North reaching 112% capacity in 2027, according to the district's website.

The newest zoning scenario also shows Elementary School No. 31—which is proposed to be near CR 175 and FM 2243—opening in 2028 when Elementary School No. 33 opens. Elementary School No. 32 is proposed to open in 2027 in the Travisso neighborhood, according to the district's website.

The attendance zones will be reviewed by the long-range planning committee and presented to the board of trustees for a vote once a scenario is finalized.
