The Pedernales Electric Cooperative celebrated 85 years of service May 19.

The power provider, which serves communities in the Hill Country, first opened its doors on that same date in 1938. Since its opening, the PEC has surpassed many milestones, such as having 300,000 active accounts in 2018.

The PEC will host a celebration in the fall, joining with customers they served who are also 85 years old. The cooperative will be celebrating all year. PEC officials are also asking for any memorabilia that has historical significance, such as old hats or T-shirts, that the community is willing to share. www.pec.coop/news/2023/85-years-history
