Austinites will now have access to information on local transportation projects that could impact commutes through a mobile app.
City leaders celebrated the official launch of CTXGO on Oct. 1, a new tool from the Construction Partnership Program.
Some context
Participating CPP agencies include the city of Austin, Austin Transit Partnership, CapMetro, the Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority, the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization and the Texas Department of Transportation.
Officials with these agencies began planning for improved coordination and public engagement efforts in 2023 and created the CPP, as previously reported by Community Impact. The agencies have a variety of ongoing projects across the metro, including the I-35 Capital Express Central project, the MoPac South project, the Loop 360 Program and Austin Light Rail.
CTXGO is part of those coordination and engagement efforts, which Austin Mobility officials say will bring regional construction information, roadway conditions and travel options together in one place.
How it works
CTXGO operates as both a free mobile app and website. Users can select from a variety of map layers to see real-time roadway information, including traffic congestion, incidents such as stalled or abandoned vehicles, and what electronic roadway message signs are currently displaying, such as estimated travel times.
The work zone map displays lane closures with expected start and end dates and times.
The tool also includes a trip planner where users can enter a starting point and destination to view drive, bike, transit or walk times before starting navigation.
The local impact
Austin Mobility officials said more than $20 billion in transportation and infrastructure projects across multiple agencies are planned in Central Texas over the next several years.
The CPP is meant to serve as a "one-stop-shop" for information on these projects and help residents find alternative travel options to speed up commutes, Community Impact reported.
“It’s quite apparent that all this construction is going to occur in overlapping sequence, and it’s imperative that we coordinate in partnership to mitigate the impacts on our community in terms of their daily lives and daily commutes," said Austin Transportation Director Richard Mendoza at an April city council meeting.
