Bryce Gilmore is moving his
Barley Swine restaurant from South Lamar Boulevard to Burnet Road after five years, the owner and executive chef announced July 13.
Barley Swine will relocate to 6555 Burnet Road this fall, freeing up the South Austin location for private events, according to a news release. The new location is part of a redevelopment project at the site formerly occupied by The Junior League of Austin Resale Shop and Mattrezzz Guys Sleep Specialists. Barley Swine will share the new space, which is already under construction, with new locations of Bufalina Pizza and Lick Ice Creams, according to a Barley Swine spokesperson.
More than just a new location, the move also represents a change in concept for the popular restaurant, which will switch to more small plate offerings and a tasting menu.
"Barley Swine was always built to evolve, and this move is part of that plan," Gilmore said in a statement. "I'm very excited to further let my team grow in a new space that gives us more room to do so."
The new space also seats double the number of guests, according to a news release, or approximately 80 people when including the outdoor patio space.
"The added space gives my kitchen the ability to do more that includes further supporting the farms in Austin," Gilmore said in a statement. "Not only are we buying more locally, we are making more from scratch."
There will also be a full bar that serves seasonally focused cocktails based on what is available that time of year—similar to the food menu. Gilmore's team also plans on creating more non-alcoholic drinks by making sodas in-house at a new bar pantry.
"We're very excited to move into North Austin and hope our longtime regulars will come make the journey with us," Gilmore said in a statement. "We're also excited to meet new diners who never made the trek south."
The original Barley Swine location will remain open the next four months before the conversion, according to the news release.
