The Thinkery, formerly known as Austin's Children Museum, will host a grand opening of its new exhibit March 28.

Space8 is an area for children 8 years and older to learn the basic skills, such as soldering, sewing, woodwork and circuitry. Children have been able to access the exhibit most of March to help the Thinkery perform test runs and improve the space before the grand opening.

Space8 focuses on making and tinkering, said Heather Singh, Thinkery gallery education manager. Space8 allows parents to drop off children 8 years and older while they take their younger children to other areas of the children's museum, she said.

Parents can leave their children in the care of Thinkery staff at Space8 or stay and work with them. The typical work time is an hour, Singh said, but children have been staying longer during the testing stage.
