President Joe Biden's trip to Austin, originally planned for July 15, has been postponed following an attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump at a campaign rally on July 13, the White House announced. The president is expected to reschedule his trip for later in July.

Biden was scheduled to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act with a speech at the LBJ Presidential Library. A new date for the visit will be announced later this week, the library said in a news release.

“Given the unfortunate events of the last 24 hours, we anticipated that the President's schedule could change anytime,” said Mark Updegrove, president and CEO of the LBJ Foundation, in the release. “We are honored President Biden remains committed to joining us at the LBJ Library to mark the 60th Anniversary of the Civil Rights Act and we look forward to hosting him later this month.”
