Bastrop County has more options coming soon ranging from new sushi, ramen and tea options to a gluten-free restaurant and more.

Taqueria 95

The woman-owned taco truck opened at the former Yoli’s Tacos & More Catering spot, which shuttered in mid-April. Similar to Yoli’s, Taqueria 95’s truck specializes in authentic Mexican breakfast tacos served all day, with premade and make-your-own taco options. Longtime resident and owner, Nerida Carrillo, said she opened her second Taqueria 95 location to provide more options for Bastrop residents. Carrillo’s original taqueria at 820 Hwy. 95 in Bastrop will remain open.

Ewing Outdoor Supply

Formerly the Community Gardens Rock Yard, the family-owned landscape supplier offers residential and commercial rock, gravel and more. Customers can choose between loading an order themselves or having it delivered for a fee.

Chapala Fiesta

Casa Chapala and Community Gardens teamed up to open Chapala Fiesta in the former Heroes Bar and Restaurant space, following Heroes’ closure on June 30. Chapala Fiesta offers authentic Mexican food and a full bar, with indoor and outdoor seating, a beer garden toward the back of Community Gardens, and a small indoor stage.

Radiant Juice Bar and Eatery

Formerly known as Radiant Juice and Smoothie Bar, owner DeLacey Martin said along with moving into the former Johnson’s Bakery location—which closed July 15—she and her team will now offer a gluten-free restaurant and bakery, and a salad bar with protein options including chicken, steak and salmon, in addition to juices and smoothies.

Volcano Sushi & Ramen

Austin-area locals Daniel Luo and Alex Liu will debut their first restaurant when the pair opens Volcano Sushi & Ramen in the Burleson Crossing Shopping Center. In addition to sushi and ramen, Luo and Liu will offer Chinese food at the sit-down restaurant nestled between CareNow Urgent Care and DoubleDave’s Pizzaworks.

Teapioca Lounge

The Austin-based fast-casual franchise will add Bastrop to its repertoire as the company works to open 50 spots in the Central Texas area. Briana Liu, part of the Teapioca Lounge franchise development team, said Meagan and Lorelei Mellenbruch of Mellow Tea will run the Bastrop location; however, an address had not been decided as of publication time. Teapioca Lounge offers a range of Taiwanese-style drinks and snacks, including coffees, juices, teas, desserts and more.

Bastrop Montessori

The Bastrop Montessori team celebrated the school’s official grand opening, as well as renovations to the playground, at its most recent location in May. Although enrollment began in the spring of 2022, officials said obstacles such as the pandemic and a teacher shortage led to the delayed grand opening celebration.

Homespun Wisdom

Owned by Stacy Collins, the boutique offers herbs, seeds, essential oils, books and handmade items made by locals. Collins said she plans to partner with another local business owner to open a reimagined version of the boutique on Main Street in the spring of 2025 called Cottage and Crow.

Rue 21

The teen clothing retailer closed all of its locations after filing for bankruptcy on May 2. In a statement to the court, interim CEO Michele Pascoe cited the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as a shift in consumer preferences toward online retailers, for the company’s downfall. The Pennsylvania-based shop operated 50 locations in Texas at the time of its closing.
