Pedernales Electric Cooperative customers now have the option to pay varying electricity rates based on the time of day and season.

The time-of-rate is an alternative to paying a flat rate throughout the year for the use of electricity. Time-of-use rates may help PEC members save money if they are able to reduce energy usage during peak times when electricity prices are highest, according to a press release from the PEC. Members can also save money by shifting energy usage to off-peak periods when electricity prices are least expensive, such as nights, a spokesman with PEC said.

“We’re committed to bringing our members a variety of rate options that will best fit their needs and lifestyles,” said PEC Rates and Pricing Manager Natalia Mack. “Because time-of-use rates are based on time and seasons, when you use electricity is as important as how much you use.”

Those interested in the new rate can visit www.pec.coop/timeofuse or call the PEC at 1-888-554-4732 to learn more about the program.
