Montgomery County ESD 10 purchases land for new fire stations

Montgomery County Emergency Services District No. 10, which serves the Greater Magnolia area, purchased two properties in Magnolia that will serve as the sites for new fire stations, according to a June 5 news release.

The two properties are located at 310 Honea Egypt Road, Magnolia, and 31353 Dobbin Huffsmith Road, Magnolia.

ESD 10 purchased the 2.685-acre Honea Egypt Road property for $2.5 million with the land set to serve as the new home for Station No. 186, located at 32707 FM 2978, according to the news release. Construction is expected to begin in 2024.

“We are excited to acquire this property as the ideal location for a larger, modern Station 186,” ESD 10 board President Larry Smith said via news release. “This investment is one that promises better resources for our firefighters and improved emergency response for our community.”

Meanwhile, the land along Dobbin Huffsmith Road is 8.2 acres in size and will be used to serve future residential and commercial growth, according to the news release.

“We have closely monitored growth in our community and identified a need for a future station in this area,” Smith said in the news release. “This property presents an excellent opportunity to offer that service. The ESD 10 board will utilize this land to execute our mission of saving lives and protecting property.”

ESD 10 provides emergency services to around 140,000 residents within about 165 square miles, according to the news release. In April, the district hired 11 new full-time firefighters.
