The Texas Education Agency released the 2018-19 accountability ratings for school districts across the state Thursday, Aug. 15. Magnolia ISD received an overall B rating for the 2018-19 school year, consistent with last year's B rating for the 2017-18 year. MISD is one of 677 school districts and charter schools receiving an overall B rating in 2018-19, according to an Aug. 15 news release from the TEA. This amounts to 57% of all public school districts in the state, an increase from 43% of school districts in the state receiving a B rating in 2017-18. Across the state, 1,201 districts and charter schools receiving a rating based on an A-F scale in 2018-19. MISD earned 87 of 100 possible points overall, an increase from 86 points in 2017-18, according to TEA information. Districts received A-F ratings for the first time in 2017-18, but this year marks the first time individual schools have received a letter rating. Previously, campuses receiving ratings of "met standard," "met alternative standard" or "improvement required." Overall grades for campuses are calculated based on the school’s performance in three domains: Student Achievement, School Progress and Closing the Gaps, according to the TEA. Here is how the district ranked in each domain. Student Achievement: B This rating is based on how much students know and are able to do at the end of the school year. MISD earned 89 of 100 possible points—two point more than last year. School Progress: B This rating is based on how students perform over time, comparing their progress to similar schools. MISD earned 89 of 100 possible points—six points more than last year. Closing the Gaps: B This rating is based on the performance of different populations of students. MISD earned 82 of 100 possible points, which is three points less than last year. Here is how each campus was graded overall.
