Robinson Road railroad work scheduled for May 23-25 in Oak Ridge North

Officials with the Union Pacific Railroad company and the city of Oak Ridge North confirmed work to shift the railroad crossing on Robinson Road will begin May 23-25.

The details

According to prior Community Impact reporting, work began on the $7.4 million realignment and widening of Robinson Road in February 2024, and it includes:

• Concrete paving
• Widened roadway
• Realignment of roadway across Hanna Road

As the project nears completion, one of the final steps is to shift the point of crossing for the railroad tracks which runs along Hanna Road. City Manager Heather Neeley said the work being done by UPRR is the first phase of shifting the railroad crossing, and additional work to install the railroad crossing guards and lights will be scheduled at a later date.

UPRR construction crews will be working on the railroad crossing May 23-25 from 7 a.m.-7 p.m., and they will focus on:

• Removing and replacing old railroad tracks
• Adjusting the track alignment and elevation
• Installing twelve new crossing boards for future crossing
• Repaving asphalt over old Robinson Road crossing point

The impact

While railroad work is being done, traffic will be rerouted along Hanna Road, Rayford Road and Imperial Oaks Boulevard, officials said.
