Montgomery County approves resolution following Spring Creek Nature Center plaque removal

Montgomery County Precinct 2 Commissioner Charlie Riley presented a resolution preventing the removal of original signage from county buildings following the removal of the original building plaque on the Spring Creek Nature Center, which commissioners approved during their March 4 meeting.

What's happening?

During Commissioner's Court on Feb. 25, Precinct 3 Commissioner Ritch Wheeler unveiled the reinstallation of a plaque which was removed from the Spring Creek Nature Center honoring members of the court who oversaw the construction of the building.

Riley brought forward the resolution as a way of preventing original, commemorative plaques from being removed from a county building without authorization from commissioners.

"I don't know if y'all were as shocked as I was at the last court. You know, I heard about a sign being removed years ago, I had no idea that was the original one off of the building. ...That is a no-no," Riley said. "That should never happen. I think we need to make sure that never happens again."
