UPDATED: Woodforest Bank Stadium vaccine hub to temporarily close May 19 due to weather, permanently shut down June 1

Montgomery County announced vaccine operations at the Woodforest Bank Stadium are beginning to wind down before its closure June 1 during a May 11 Commissioners Court meeting.

According to Jason Millsaps, executive director of the Montgomery County Office of Emergency Management, anybody pending a second dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine through St. Luke's Hospital, Lone Star Family Health Center or the Montgomery County Hospital District is encouraged to get their vaccine before the site closes.

"We are not in the process of giving first doses at that site as of [May 11] due to the calendar," Millsaps said. "If we gave first doses today, we would have to give the second dose in 21 or 28 days, depending on what vaccine they receive."

Millsaps said the county providers will continue giving first doses, but they will be done through clinics at their private facilities.

As of May 11, Montgomery County has distributed 358,958 vaccines across all providers. According to Millsaps, 219,000 are first doses and 150,000 are fully vaccinated, or around 32% of the county.

"It has been a long time coming," Millsaps said. "It is unbelievable to think we have been at this almost six months. It has been a great experience."

Millsaps added there is the potential for a "one-off day" at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds if providers have excess vaccines available so they do not expire.
