The Harris County Flood Control District is hosting a series of webinars for the general public to explain the new draft floodplain maps from the Federal Emergency Management Administration.
Some context
As previously reported by Community Impact, Harris County's 34 floodplain administrators received the draft maps for the first countywide floodplain update in February. While various portions of the county have received spot updates following major developments and infrastructure improvements in 2017 and 2019, according to FEMA documents, this is the first full countywide update in nearly a decade.
“It is important to emphasize that, at this stage, these are draft maps from FEMA intended for technical review by floodplain administrators,” Woodell said. “They are not final, not regulatory. ... Nothing changes right now related to flood insurance requirements or development regulations.”
