Approximately 25,802 voters in Harris and Montgomery counties cast early ballots in the May 2 special election to fill former Sen. Brandon Creighton’s seat in the Texas Legislature, according to unofficial early voting results released by the Texas Secretary of State's office.
By the numbers
Votes cast in Harris and Montgomery counties combined accounted for 81% of turnout during the early voting period, which ran from April 20-28. Texas Senate District 4 also includes portions of Galveston, Chambers and Jefferson counties.
Montgomery and Harris counties have 382,122 and 221,764 registered voters in Texas Senate District 4, respectively:
- 2.06% of registered Harris County voters in the district voted early
- 5.55% of registered Montgomery County voters in the district voted early
More than 31,000 Texans across the district voted early in the special election, about 82% of whom voted in person, the unofficial results show.
On the ballot
Two candidates are facing off in the May 2 election to replace Creighton, who resigned from office after being named chancellor and CEO of the Texas Tech University System.
Democrat Ron Angeletti is competing against Republican Brett W. Ligon to serve for the remainder of Creighton’s term through January 2027. The District 4 seat is up for election again in November for another four-year term.
