VO Vets is enhancing its approach to pet care by emphasizing the importance of preventative medicine and making it more accessible through comprehensive membership plans.

The full-service veterinary clinic is open daily from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., with urgent care services available for walk-in patients. Dr. Eric Collins said the team provides high-quality care to each pet.

“We treat every animal like they are our own,” he said. “I'm giving you the same care that I would give to my own personal animals. That's what really brings people back.”

Building on its commitment to affordable and compassionate care, VO Vets' membership options are designed to support pets at every stage of life.

Tailored plans for every life stage

VO Vets recognizes that pets have varying health needs as they grow. To address this, they offer specialized plans:
  • Puppy and kitten wellness plans: These plans provide essential care for young animals, including vaccinations, fecal testing, deworming, and testing for feline leukemia and feline immunodeficiency virus. Recognizing the importance of spaying and neutering, these procedures can be added to the plans. However, VO Vets also prioritizes the individual needs of each animal, carefully considering factors like size and breed before recommending the appropriate time for such procedures.
  • Adult wellness plans: Similar to the puppy and kitten plans, the adult plans focus on preventative care to maintain the ongoing health of mature pets. Spay and neuter options are also available for adult animals. These focus on the changing care pets need as they age.
  • Dental plans: Recognizing the significance of dental health, VO Vets offers dental plans that simplify the financial aspect of routine dental procedures. These plans allow pet owners to spread the cost of essential dental care over 12 months, making it more manageable.

The power of preventative blood work

VO Vets is particularly focused on educating pet owners about the value of early detection through regular blood work. Dr. Collins emphasizes its importance in identifying potential health issues before they become critical.

He said a 2021 study found that 23% of senior dogs and 35% of senior cats that appeared healthy had significant abnormalities in their blood work. In addition, data from health care company IDEXX indicates that about 1 in 7 animals over the age of 2 will also show clinically significant blood work values.

“I think people see it sometimes as us trying to just add on something to their appointment, but it's extremely valuable,” Dr. Collins said. “If you get a baseline each and every year, if we start to notice upward trends in kidney values for example, we're really able to catch those diseases earlier on.”

This proactive approach, combined with the comprehensive wellness plans, empowers pet owners to take a more active role in their animal's health, ultimately strengthening the human-animal bond.
