Figura Med Spa is making a name for itself in Texas by focusing exclusively on non-invasive approaches to aesthetics.

Prior to opening Figura Med Spa, co-owners Sean Bell and Arthur Abello noticed while many spas provided various wellness treatments, none were experts in the field of non-invasive sculpting. The duo saw an opportunity to solely focus on focused offerings, ensuring their clients receive the best experience and results.

Figura Med Spa first opened in South Austin in 2019 and quickly exploded in popularity. To meet the demand for services, Bell and Abello opened their new location in North Austin in September 2022. The co-owners are also looking to expand services to San Antonio.

“Because our concept is so highly focused, we quickly became the number one CoolSculpting provider in Austin and we are now the number one provider in the state of Texas,” Bell said. “We wanted to open a location up in North Austin because we had a lot of interest from our clientele, and we wanted to make a more convenient location to service a greater part of Austin.”

Body sculpting is a procedure that reshapes or contours certain areas on the body. Depending on the medical device, body sculpting can be used to get rid of excess fat, or tighten skin, build muscle, as well as reshape an area. For those who are new to body sculpting terms, CoolSculpting has been popular since the 2010s and remains the most popular noninvasive procedure for body sculpting. The procedure uses paddles to freeze and destroy fat cells.

Bell said the team members at Figura Med Spa have been performing CoolSculpting treatments since the FDA approved the machine in 2010.

“It’s kind of an art form, and it’s not a solution for completely removing every area of body fat,” he said. “It’s really targeted to certain pockets and it requires certain techniques to create the proper shadowing and contouring in those areas. So it’s really important to have someone that is truly skilled in those areas.”

In addition to CoolSculpting, Figura Med Spa also offers Emsculpt, a new noninvasive sculpting machine that came out in 2019. The Emsculpt machine uses high-intensity focused electromagnetic energy (HIFEM)to stimulate muscle contractions. During an Emsculpt session, participants experience 20,000 contractions which encourages muscle-building.

As working entrepreneurs, both Bell and Abello have busy schedules and use Emsculpt themselves as a way to bump up their workout regimen.

“It’s really handy, especially for rock climbing because it’s improved my core strength,” Bell said. “Specifically, it’s helping with bouldering when you have three points of contact and your core is basically holding you up.”

After an Emsculpt session, Bell said clients can expect to feel quite energized and after a day or two may also feel some soreness. However, the machine switches pulsation patterns throughout the 30-minute session to help drain lactic acid from clients’ muscles to avoid intense soreness.

“The feeling of the treatment is kind of hard to describe,” Bell said. “Some people love it, some people hate it. It’s kind of a tickling feeling.”

When deciding between Coolsculpting and Emsculpt, the experts at Figura Med Spa can help clients choose the best fit for their bodies. Bell said the decision depends on the client’s goals and existing body fat or muscle.
