The city of Austin has replaced street signs on the renamed Menchaca Road, formerly Manchaca Road, according to a Dec. 16 press release. The name change was first approved by Austin City Council in October 2018 and withstood a lawsuit filed by Leave Manchaca Alone earlier this year. There were 160 road signs that required replacement, with a total cost of $24,000, according to Austin Transportation Department spokesperson Marissa Monroy. The name change honors military captain Jose Antonio Menchaca. www.austin.gov/department/transportation
