The four-lane extension from Slaughter Lane at Vertex Boulevard to Thaxton Road continues in
Southeast Austin.
Travis County Commissioners on Dec. 18 approved just under $60,000 of modifications to guardrails, pedestrian rails and additional environmental controls. The total cost of the project is now more than $9.7 million.
When complete, Slaughter Lane will extend beyond Vertex Boulevard eastward to meet Thaxton Road. The plans include a 600-foot-long bridge over Marble Creek.
Travis County Commissioners first approved the
Slaughter Lane East extension project on July 19, 2016. The county's 2005 bond supplied funds for design and right of way. Voters approved a 2011 bond that, alongside funds from the city of Austin, financed construction costs.
As it stands, the project is 80 percent complete, according to the county’s website. Construction began in winter 2016 and is expected to conclude in spring 2019.
