Several mobility improvements are complete in some Southwest Austin neighborhoods, designed to enhance safety safety for students walking and biking to and from Gorzycki Middle School, Kiker Elementary School, Mills Elementary School, and nearby trails and parks.
The details
Completed in phases, the project began the first phase of construction in December 2023 and finished the second phase just shy of a year later in November. The roughly $1 million in improvements included:
New bike lanes
New on-street parking pockets for school drop-off and pickup
Protected intersections
New and improved pedestrian crossings
New sidewalks

The project team is currently seeking feedback from anyone that regularly travels throughout this area.
Those interested can visit the project’s evaluation webpage for a project summary. The city will also hold two community listening sessions the week of Feb. 17. A survey will remain open online through Feb. 28.
City staff are currently performing an analysis of changes to motor vehicle speeds and volumes at key locations such as neighborhood mailboxes, school pickup and drop-off areas during key times of the day and days of the week.
After compiling comments and conducting the traffic analysis, a final report will be published in mid-March, according to a January update from the city.
