Austin leaders directed more than $21 million to help finance five affordable housing developments around the city this fall.
What's happening
City Council, serving as the board of the Austin Housing Finance Corp., authorized loan agreements totaling $21.09 million for the income-restricted residential projects on Oct. 22. The majority of those funds—$20.8 million—come from the city's 2022 housing bond, while the remaining $1.01 million came from a federal housing investment.
Gap financing for new projects in South, Central and East Austin this fall includes:
$7.92 million from bond funds for the $31.91 million Jordan II with 66 units, to be developed by Foundation Communities at 2701 1/2 Philomena St.
$5.2 million from bond funds for the $30.95 million The Maven with 83 units, to be developed by DMA Development Co. at 618 E. Highland Mall Blvd.
$4.32 million from bond funds for the $26.85 million Rowen Vale with 64 units, to be developed by O-SDA Industries at 206 E. Annie St.
$2.64 million from bond funds for the $16.28 million The Lenora with 39 units, to be developed by Overland Property Group at 4507 Menchaca Road
$1.01 million from federal HOME Community Housing Development Organization funds for the $4.02 million Austin Art Village with nine units, to be developed by the Blackland Community Development Corp. with a preference for local artist tenants
“Affordable housing is essential infrastructure for a thriving city. These funding recommendations demonstrate how strategic public investment, paired with strong partnerships, can deliver lasting community benefits,” Nicole Joslin, Austin housing and community development officer, said in a statement. “We’re proud to support developments that will provide long‑term affordability and expand access to housing across Austin.”
