What you need to know
Hays County residents are being asked to consider a 12-cent increase to the property tax rate. If the tax rate is approved, it will increase to $1.2746 per $100 valuation from $1.1546 per $100 valuation.
Unofficial early election results show 40.32% of voters in favor of the proposition, and 59.68% opposed.
The higher maintenance and operations, or M&O, rate would raise approximately $26.24 million more in revenue than the previous rate, according to previous reporting by Community Impact.
Unofficial early voting results showed that 19,253 ballots were cast countywide, compared to 189,688 registered Hays County voters.
Polls closed at 7 p.m.; voters who were in line at 7 p.m. were still able to cast ballots.
