According to unofficial results, early voting totals show Leah Kaufman leads over candidates Spencer Copeland and Kenneth Rocha in the Kyle City Council District 4 race. With no incumbent seeking reelection, newcomer Kaufman leads at 46.86%, ahead of Copeland at 24.43% and Rocha at 28.71%.
What we know
As of 7 p.m. on Election Day, Kaufman has received about 2,135 votes.
Kaufman, who has a history in public policy, moved to Kyle seven years ago. Her priorities, if elected, will be to focus on infrastructure, public safety and the services that improve everyday life, she previously told Community Impact in an election Q&A.
“Fiscal responsibility means getting the greatest long-term value for taxpayers, not simply the lowest upfront cost,” Kaufman said. “Investing wisely today can prevent much greater costs tomorrow.”
Copeland, a disaster recovery consultant, has served on three of the city’s boards and commissions. Copeland said the biggest challenge facing Kyle is “managing future growth and harnessing that growth to fund our City,” he previously shared with Community Impact in an election Q&A. Copeland told Community Impact he is feeling excited ahead of the election.
“I’m very happy and pleased to see the turnout that we’ve had so far. Democracy is a team event and so I’m glad to see so many players in the field today,” Copeland said.
Rocha, a candidate with 20 years of public service experience, would focus on reliable services if elected.
“My priorities are straightforward: reliable water and utility service, safer, better-connected roads, appropriately resourced police, well-maintained green spaces, and responsible budgeting,” Rocha said.
The context
Seats on the dais for Kyle City Council Districts 2 and 4 are both up for election this year, with each serving staggered three-year terms. Lauralee Harris previously held the District 4 seat on the Kyle City Council, but did not run for reelection.
