Seven long-term nightly and weekend closures along I-35 and Loop 1604 are expected to conclude in early 2025.

The closures are part of the I-35 Northeast Expansion, increasing the roadway capacity of I-35 by constructing elevated lanes and expanding ground lanes, according to the Texas Department of Transportation, or TxDOT.

What you need to know

Of the seven long-term closures, two are expected to conclude by the end of February, including the closure of the exit ramp to Weidner Road and the closure of the westbound right lane at the intersection of Weidner Road and I-35.

Nightly closures of westbound main lanes of Loop 1604 from Pat Booker Road to Lookout Road and the Lookout Road intersection at Loop 1604 will continue periodically through March, alongside the nightly closures of the eastbound from Lookout Road to IKEA-RBFCU Parkway.

The remaining three road sections are planned to be completed in May, including:
  • The southbound entrance ramp to I-35 south of O’Connor Road
  • The FM 1518 and Evans Road exit on northbound I-35
  • The southbound I-35 exit ramp to Thousand Oaks Drive and Starlight Terrace
Moving forward

While these closures are expected to wrap up in early 2025, work on the I-35 NEX project will continue to have weekend and nightly closures until the completion of the project.

According to TxDOT, the NEX Central project is expected to be completed in 2027, while the first phase of the NEX South project is expected to be completed in 2028.

The southern portion of the project will be done in three phases, and the northern portion will expand the section of I-35 between FM 1103 and FM 3009, according to project plans.
