Selma City Council on May 9 denied the zoning change for 6.135 acres along I-35 frontage road, which was proposed to be used for an Acura dealership.

The details

The applicant requested a zoning change to allow for a car dealership and related uses during the April 11 City Council meeting. With no action from council, the discussion was brought back during the May 9 meeting.

During both meetings, residents raised concerns about light pollution to the surrounding neighborhood, increased traffic from the development and other public safety concerns.

What else

The request also went before the Planning and Zoning Commission, with members recommending denial of the rezoning, City Administrator Johnny Casias said.

City Council voted to accept the recommendation from P&Z, which resulted in the denial of the rezoning for the new dealership.
