The Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City ISD board of trustees discussed the long-range plan for athletics facilities Oct. 17.

The overview

Athletics Director Scott Lehnhoff said these athletics programs have a participation of 1,116 students at Samuel Clemens High School and 1,123 at Byron P. Steele High School.

"Nearly half of our student bodies are trying out and participating at Clemens and Steele, which is awesome to see," Lehnhoff said.

To maintain facilities that support athletics, district staff looked at areas of safety, program effectiveness and efficiency, student experience and community experience.

Breaking it down

According to the presentation, the total estimated cost of all of the athletics department needs is $81.50 million.

Numbers provided are early estimates and can be expected to change as projects begin, staff said. The long-range plan outlines needs for the next five to ten years.

Costs include stadium renovations, relocation of concessions and restrooms, tennis court renovations and other athletic facility needs.

Facility specific estimates include:
  • Lehnhoff Stadium: $12.52 million
  • Clemens High School: $28.40 million
  • Steele High School: $22 million
  • Corbett Junior High School: $2.05 million
  • Dobie Junior High School: $11.22 million
  • Wilder/Jordan intermediate schools: $3.33 million
Moving forward

The agenda item for the long-range plan was for discussion only, meaning the board of trustees did not make any decisions on the information.

Over the course of multiple meetings, district staff will continue giving presentations on facility improvements, including a Fine Arts Plan in November and a Career and Technical Education Plan in December.

Following the plan presentations, district staff and officials will work on steps moving forward. The full presentation can be found here.
