The superintendent search process for Judson ISD is wrapping up as Milton “Rob” Fields III was named as the lone finalist April 20.

Following the resignation of Jeanette Ball in November, Fields was appointed as the interim superintendent Dec. 1.

In January, the district entered an agreement with Hazard Young Attea and Associates to serve as the superintendent search firm.

A profile for the desired superintendent candidate was approved March 7 following surveys and feedback from Judson ISD stakeholders.

With the approval of the profile, the board of trustees held eight special meetings from March 27-April 13 to conduct interviews with superintendent candidates and have closed session discussions regarding applicants.

Out of more than 40 nationwide applicants, Fields was named as the lone finalist for the district, according to an April 20 release.

"The board interviewed very talented and exceptional public school leaders,” JISD Board President Jennifer Rodriguez said in the release. “We were so pleased to see that Dr. Fields, both a product of the district and a current leader in the district, rose to the top. He possessed all the qualities identified on the leadership profile that was made by our community. He has consistently demonstrated tremendous dedication to our students and staff. We are confident in his ability to continue to lead with passion, integrity, and knowledge as he has shown during his time as the interim.”

Fields is a Judson ISD alumnus and has been in education for over 21 years, serving the last 16 years at Judson ISD.

Prior to his role as interim superintendent, Fields was the deputy superintendent of student services and administration.

According to the release, Fields has also served as the assistant superintendent of operations and principal of Karen Wagner High School.

“It is an honor and a blessing to be given the opportunity to continue my educational journey working with the incredible students, staff and community of Judson ISD,” Fields said in the release. “I first learned about the deep-rooted tradition of excellence in our district as a student here and I am so proud, as an educator, to have been a part of how it has evolved. I am so grateful and excited to continue giving back to the community that has helped shape me as a leader.”

The board of trustees will vote on the final approval of the Field’s contract May 11 following a state-mandated 21-day waiting period.
