An 8-year-old student was found in possession of a firearm and two knives while at Rose Garden Elementary School in Schertz on Dec. 13.
The Schertz Police Department said it was notified at 11:40 a.m. about a third-grader brandishing weapons on campus.
School resource officers with Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City ISD responded, took possession of a firearm and located the two knives. Authorities alerted Rose Garden administrators of the incident.
Schertz police said it is investigating the incident and working with the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office to determine if charges will be filed.
“It is unfortunate that this incident has occurred in our city, but I am thankful for the collaborative work that has been accomplished and being conducted between SCUCISD and our SROs to keep our schools safe,” city police Chief James Lowery said in a statement.
