This first property, located at the corner of Loop 1604 and West Byrd Boulevard, proposed that zoning be changed to planned unit development, which would allow the creation of multifamily housing alongside a storage facility.
For this item Council Members William Shelby and Bear Goolsby raised questions regarding the storage facility and whether having that facility is more beneficial to the city than having retail in that area.
“It is great that you are going to have an apartment complex that is going to need extra storage, because nobody has any space in their apartments, so I see you getting a lot of business out of that,” Shelby said. “However, you also have a lot of people living in that apartment complex that could use retail they could walk to.”
No action was taken on this item.
The second concept presented to council was for the property located at 2280 Pat Booker Road.
The concept suggested changing the property to a planned unit development, which would be used to construct a 300-unit market-rate apartment complex.
According to the property owner, this property has remained undeveloped since 2007 with multiple proposals over the years.
City Council showed support for adding an apartment complex to the area, but it raised concerns about adding traffic to Pat Booker.
No decision was made on this item, and it will be brought back to the council for consideration at a future meeting.
