Road improvements continue on two major North San Antonio-area corridors while contractors are in the early stages of upgrading select Shavano Park city roads.
Shavano Park Phase IA
D&D Contractors is handling Shavano Park’s $6.28 million, bond-funded road and cul-de-sac project. The contracting firm has spent much of September working on the 300 block of Fawn Drive, Shavano Drive and Chimney Rock Lane with upgrade work on the latter two roads lasting through November.
Work on the 100 and 200 blocks of Fawn Drive was scheduled to start in early October and last through December. Work on Windmill Road is slated for November through January, according to officials with the city and D&D.
North Loop 1604 expansion
Work crews handling the widening and improvement of Loop 1604 have done alternating nightly or weekend closures of eastbound and westbound lanes between Stone Oak Parkway exit and I-10 throughout September.
The westbound main lanes of Loop 1604 from the Lockhill Selma Road exit ramp to I-10 will occur 9 p.m.-5 a.m. daily through Sept. 29.
Additionally, contractors continue preparations to convert the Blanco Road/Loop 1604 intersection into a diverging diamond with realigned lanes and traffic lights.
According to the Texas Department of Transportation, work on the $1.3 billion expansion of Loop 1604 will continue after 2025 as work proceeds eastward to I-35.
Northwest Military Highway
The project to widen and upgrade Northwest Military between Loop 1604 and Huebner Road in Shavano Park remains on schedule, TxDOT officials said.
Project representatives said, weather permitting, work crews will begin a fourth and final phase of activity by early 2024 and end the $15.5 million project in February 2024.
