What happened?

Hollywood Park Mayor Chester Drash joined Hollywood Park Economic Development Corp. board members June 21 for a ribbon-cutting ceremony with Providence Place’s leaders.

The background

Originally established in 1895, Providence Place serves an adoption agency, which has placed more than 6,000 children.

The organization’s creator—Madame Volino, the owner of a local brothel—started a place where vulnerable women could safely put a child up for adoption, according to agency leaders.

Providence Place provides other programs, such as helping adult survivors of complex trauma, women facing an unplanned pregnancy, young families and youth in foster care.

Supports offered through Providence Place include job search assistance and therapeutic services.
