The city of San Antonio Office of the City Clerk will host a Mayor and Council Candidate Application Day starting at 8 a.m. Jan. 15 at City Hall, 100 Military Plaza, for residents interested in applying for a place on the May 3 general election ballot.

What you need to know

Applications can be filed at City Hall from Jan. 15 until 5 p.m. Feb. 14. The Office of the City Clerk is open during regular business hours from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday. Extended hours will be available from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Jan. 15 and Feb. 14.

Candidate qualifications and requirements:
  • Must be a citizen of the United States
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must be a registered city of San Antonio voter
  • Must have resided in San Antonio continuously for one year
  • Must have resided in their respective City Council District for at least six months prior to filing an application for a place on the ballot
  • Must submit two documents verifying residency
  • Must designate a campaign treasurer
  • Must remit a $100 filing fee and a $10 notary fee (payment options: credit card, cash, check, or money order made to the City of San Antonio). Alternatively, may collect petition signatures in lieu of the filing fee
Applicants may bring one additional person to assist them with filing.
