Though San Antonio City Hall and most municipal offices will be closed from Dec. 24-Jan. 1, multiple city services will remain open or partially in service over the winter holiday season.

What you need to know

According to a news release, public safety and emergency services will remain open throughout the holiday season as well as some general services.

General services schedule:
  • 3-1-1 call center will be open for urgent concerns from 8 a.m.-11 p.m. Dec. 24-Jan. 1 for services including animal requests and traffic signal malfunctions
  • Animal care officers will be on duty
  • Code enforcement officers will be available for inspections and emergency coverage
  • Downtown parking visitors will enjoy holiday free parking at all on-street meters Dec. 24, Dec. 25, and Jan. 1.
  • City-operated parking garages will be free from 5 p.m. Dec. 24 to 8 a.m. Dec. 26 and from noon Jan. 1 to 6 a.m. Jan. 2.
  • The Downtown Tuesday program will be temporarily suspended Dec. 31. Event parking rates will apply at City of San Antonio parking facilities. Regular meter rates will also be in effect


Waste collection services schedule:
  • Garbage, recycling and organics will be collected Dec. 24
  • There will be no collections Dec. 25 and Jan. 1
  • Garbage, recycling and organics collections will be adjusted, with Dec. 25 collections moving to Dec. 26, Dec. 26 collections moving to Dec. 27, Dec. 27 collections moving to Dec. 28, Jan. 1 collections moving to Jan. 2, Jan. 2 collections moving to Jan. 3 and Jan. 3 collections moving to Jan 4
  • Bitters Brush site, 1800 Wurzbach Parkway, will be closed from Dec. 24- 25 and Jan. 1
  • All four bulky waste drop-off centers and the household hazardous waste drop off center will be closed from Dec. 24-25 and Jan. 1


Facilities and administrative offices schedules include:
  • San Antonio Public Library will be closed from Dec. 24-26, Dec. 31 and Jan. 1
  • La Villita and Market Square shops will be closed Dec. 25 and Jan. 1
  • Centro de Artes Gallery at Historic Market Square will be closed from Dec. 24-25 and Jan. 1
  • Alamodome offices and box office will be closed Dec. 25, Dec. 31 and Jan. 1
  • The Animal Care Services Lobby and Adoption Center will be open from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Dec. 24 and Dec. 31, with regular business hours Dec. 26-30. The shelter will be closed Dec. 25 and Jan. 1
  • Women, Infants, and Children clinics at 6723 S. Flores St., 4412 Callaghan Road and 2315 Buena Vista St. will be open from 7:45 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Dec. 30. All other Metro Health clinics and offices will be closed
  • Homeless connections hotline and veteran services will be closed from Dec. 24-25 and Jan. 1
  • Spanish Governors Palace will be closed from Dec. 24-25 and Jan. 1
  • Municipal Court magistration services and SAPD's detention center will be open
  • City parks and trails will be open


Services closed over the holiday include:
  • San Antonio Municipal Court
  • SAPD’s administration and records section
  • SAFD administrative offices
  • Most senior/adult comprehensive centers
  • Senior nutrition sites
  • Willie Velasquez, Claude Black and Frank Garrett community centers
  • Open records and the administration and records section at the public safety headquarters
  • Neighborhood and housing services
  • Office of the city clerk, including vital records
