The Old English Tea Shoppe, offering traditional British teas, meals and pastries, opened before Thanksgiving in North San Antonio.

The background

Located in the former Savor Bistro spot at a Stone Oak retail center, Old English Tea Shoppe is owned by Janet Kelly and England natives Robb Kelly and Sandra and Peter Marley.

Robb Kelly, who founded Robb Kelly Recovery Group, an alcohol and addiction recovery practice now based near Timberwood Park, said he long dreamed of opening a British tea shop.

What’s on the menu

A British staff prepares and serves authentic English foods for breakfast and lunch, including a full English breakfast featuring eggs, sausage, bacon, black pudding, mushrooms, toast, beans or tomatoes.

The restaurant also offers Sunday roasts, a traditional British supper consisting of roasted meat, mashed and roasted potatoes, and sides such as Yorkshire pudding, stuffing and gravy, and condiments such as apple or mint sauce.

Digging deeper

Diners can choose from a range of sandwiches, cakes and teas. The lunch menu includes quiche, pies, and bangers and mash.

Traditional English afternoon teas are available by appointment only for $49.95 per person. Here, a patron can have their choice of two sandwiches, one savory selection and a pastry.

The tea shop also has coffee options and a kids menu.
