What you need to know
Ballerinas accepted into the program will be able to learn from some of the most accomplished figures in modern ballet. This includes internationally renowned choreographer Stanton Welch, ballerina Julie Kent and ballet teacher Lauren Anderson.
Accepted students will experience immersive training for 6-8 hours daily, 6 days a week, from June 21 - July 25. These classes are designed for dancers in levels 5-8, or ages 12 years and older.
Audition schedule:
- Ages 7-11, check-in 12-30-1 p.m., class 1-2 p.m.
- Ages 12-14, check-in 1:45-2:15 p.m., class 2:15-3:45 p.m.
- Ages 15 and older, check-in 3:30-4 p.m., class 4-5:30 p.m.
The backstory
With over 50 years of history, Houston Ballet has evolved into a company with a budget of $37.6 million and an endowment of $97.5 million, making it the country’s fourth-largest ballet company.
Its $46.6 million state-of-the-art performance space, the Houston Ballet Margaret Alkek Williams Center for Dance, opened in April 2011. Houston Ballet’s Education and Community Engagement program reaches more than 85,000 individuals in the Houston area annually. Houston Ballet Academy trains more than 1,000 students every year, producing more than 60% of the elite athletes that comprise Houston Ballet’s current Company.
