Beginning Oct. 25, main lanes of I-35 between Walzem Road and Petroleum Drive will be closed on the weekends.

What you need to know

Lane closures are scheduled from Fridays at 9 p.m. to Mondays at 5 a.m. Closures are expected every weekend through early 2025.

During the construction, one or two main lanes of I-35 in either direction will be closed for median reconstruction. At least one main lane in both directions will remain open at all times.

Closures are expected to cause delays, and all closures are weather-permitting and subject to change.

The background

The I-35 Northeast Expansion Central project broke ground in 2022, with the goal of expanding I-35 from Loop 410 to around FM 3009.

This is one of three large projects making up the Northeast Expansion project, with the entire project expected to be completed around 2030. The central portion is expected to be completed around 2027.

Additional information about the project can be found here. Drivers can sign up for project updates here.
