On Sept. 27 Methodist Hospital Northeast officials celebrated the opening of the new outpatient surgery department, marking the completion of Methodist Plaza II.

The details

Methodist Plaza II broke ground in 2022 as a 73,000 square-foot expansion to Methodist Hospital Northeast.

The 23,000 square-foot outpatient surgery department includes four operating rooms and robotic capabilities.

These capabilities allow the hospital staff to provide surgical care for breast, colorectal, gynecology, orthopedics, podiatry, robotics and reconstructive plastic surgery, Hospital Chief Executive Officer Jerrica George said.

“This center will allow us to focus on multispecialty care for our surrounding communities,” George said.

What else?

Alongside the outpatient surgery department, the expansion houses partners of Methodist Hospital Northeast.

Partners include Alamo City Surgeons, Cardiology Clinic of San Antonio, Northeast Pulmonary and Sleep Associates, Sports Medicine Associates of San Antonio and Virtuosa.

George said with the support of partners, the expansion was able to hit 100% occupancy in record time.

Officials and leaders from local cities and organizations joined the hospital staff for a ribbon cutting event, with Live Oak Mayor Mary Dennis speaking on the importance of the facility in the area.

According to hospital staff, the expansion helps service residents in Guadalupe, Comal and northeast Bexar counties.

“We certainly are thrilled to have this facility here in Live Oak," Dennis said. "But not just Live Oak, it is our region, it is our community that we are here to serve."
