The voter-approved project is part of the city’s 2023 Bond Program Proposition C and will add a branch library to its existing library system.
Proposition C—which costs approximately $28.56M—will fund a 23,250 square-foot library building. The building will feature meeting rooms, a public plaza and garden space. The branch would also serve six schools within walking distance of the facility.
Some details
A task order for architectural design services was issued in February to firms that were prequalified through the city’s Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity process, according to agenda documents.
The city received responses from several firms, which were evaluated and scored by city staff. An evaluation committee interviewed the top three scoring firms and unanimously selected Ford Powell & Carson after the interview process was complete, according to agenda documents.
Next steps
The design for the project is anticipated to be complete by summer 2026. Construction will commence following completion of the design, according to an email to Community Impact from Communications Manager David Ferguson.
