The exit is the last place on the river that tubers can exit and was previously closed during construction. Both projects will open to the public beginning Memorial Day weekend, according to a news release.
The details
The last public exit was a $1.2 million project funded by the New Braunfels Economic Development Corporation. Construction on the project, which began in December, consisted of replacing the bottom steps, installing an underwater landing and enhancing ADA accessibility to improve safety, the release states.
Deputy City Manager Jordan Matney said the city was excited to reopen the last public exit ahead of one of the busiest weekends of the year on the Comal River.
“These improvements not only make the exit safer and more accessible, but they also reaffirm the city’s commitment to providing a positive recreation experience for residents and visitors alike,” Matney said in the release.
LPAC is also reopening following a $2.75 million overhaul to the complex’s Olympic Pool and Bath House. Project construction, which was funded by unused contingency funds from the city’s 2013 bond, also began in December, according to the news release.
Much like the last tuber’s exit, the complex renovations focused on improving safety, accessibility and visitor experience.
Olympic Pool renovations include:
- ADA improvements
- Resurfacing, retiling the pool
- Updating play structures
- Installing new gutter, plumbing and electrical systems
