The New Braunfels ISD board of trustees has plans to replace existing interior and exterior lighting at Old Lamar Elementary, Seele Elementary and Lone Star Early Childhood Center.

What you need to know

Districtwide LED lighting replacements are being funded by Proposition A of the 2024 Bond—which voters approved in May of 2024, according to previous reporting by Community Impact.

Lighting replacements began December of 2024 and are anticipated to be completed for all campuses by the summer of 2026, Billy Kidd, director of planning and construction, said during a April 14 board of trustees meeting.

Digging deeper

About 2,269 light fixtures would be retrofitted or replaced at the three campuses, board documents state.

One-time light replacements at Lone Star Early Chidlhood Center and Old Lamar Elementary and Seele Elementary schools are anticipated to cost $272,182, according to a proposal from E3 Entegral Solutions for construction services through BuyBoard's Job Order Contracting for Energy Conservation and Efficiency Contract.

Kidd said the LED lights will provide better lighting, be more energy efficient and have cost savings.

Looking ahead

District staff will bring a contract to the board for consideration at its May 12 meeting. Contingent upon the award of a contract, the lights at the aforementioned campuses would be replaced during the summer break, Kidd said.
