A newly elected council member and the re-election of another reshaped the dais for New Braunfels City Council.

D. Lee Edwards and Lawrence Spradley were sworn in to New Braunfels City Council May 28.

The context

D. Lee Edwards emerged the victor of a three-way race May 4 for the New Braunfels City Council District 3 spot. Outgoing council member and Mayor Pro Tem Harry Bowers did not seek re-election.

District 4 council member Lawrence Spradley was unopposed in his re-election bid.

“I extend my thanks again to my family and my supporters who really have trusted me and had faith in me to do my daily duties as a council member,” Spradley said. “By being easily accessible is how I started my City Council journey. Anyone can call me, text me, message me. ... That has been a key to identifying issues, problems or ideas to make our city better tomorrow than it is today.”

Edwards, who previously served on the city’s planning commission, pledged to represent all of his new district.

“The promise that I made is that I would be a leader that would listen and analyze to make good decisions, but I represent all people, not just the 54% that got me elected but also the 46% that didn’t.” Edwards said. “That’s going to be the key, and that’s my pledge and promise.”
