Digging deeper
The Voigt House was recorded as a Texas Historic Landmark in 1973 and deeded to Herman Seele. Seele was the first schoolmaster of Texas that lived in one part of the home, Kyle said.
Kennedy’s Tavern will serve specialty drinks, wine, beer, Irish coffees and espresso martinis. Customers will also be able to purchase liquor lockers—a place where they can store their liquor.
The Irish bar will serve Irish fare such as fish and chips, and bangers and mash. Kennedy’s Tavern will also serve pizza by the slice, mini tacos, wings, quesadillas and loaded fries. The bar will have a music stage and wrap-around tree bar around the heritage tree in front of the building. There will be 24 beer taps at each of the three bars as well.
“We’re excited to be a part of this side of downtown,” Kyle said.
Thai food truck Texas Thai will also remain on the property. The food truck temporarily closed in the beginning of January for renovations and will reopen with a new menu concurrently with Kennedy's Tavern.
What’s special about it?
Kennedy’s Tavern will also be home to the Emerald Lounge—a traditional, upstairs speakeasy that will serve higher-end cocktails and Prohibition-style drinks.
“We’re [going to] put LED shamrocks on the windows, and when the shamrocks are on, the Emerald Lounge is open,” Kyle told Community Impact.
Looking ahead
Construction on the project will begin in May. Kyle said they hope to open in October or November.
