The Comal ISD board of trustees approved a tax rate of $1.07 per $100 of valuation for fiscal year 2026-27 at a board meeting on Sept. 17.
Breaking it down
The maintenance and operations tax rate was approved at a total of $0.724 and the interest and sinking rate remained at $0.35, according to the agenda documents.
The maintenance and operations portion of the tax pays for day-to-day operations, staff salaries and operational expenses.
The interest and sinking fund rate goes toward paying off voter-approved bonds and debt, according to the TEA website.
What the board is saying
Trustee Tim Hennessee said he appreciates that the board has maintained a consistent tax rate over the years and believes this will continue for many years to come.
“This is just one other example of pointing out that we are very cognizant of the dollars that we get, and how we spend them, and we spend extremely effectively,” Hennessee said.
Board Vice President Russ Garner said he values that Comal ISD has a lower tax rate than similar-sized districts in the area.
Looking ahead
Taxpayers will not see an increase in this approved tax rate if the proposed 2026 bond is approved by voters in November, according to the bond 2026 website.
