Two Comal River maintenance projects approved earlier this year are set to begin construction in December and January.

The last public exit improvement project and Landa Lake Dam improvement project, funded by the New Braunfels Economic Development Corporation, will begin Dec. 12 and in January, respectively.

How we got here

The NBEDC approved funding for both projects in April, followed by New Braunfels City Council approval in May, according to a Nov. 20 news release from the city.

Construction contracts for the projects were finalized on Oct. 14, said Jenna Vinson, director of communications and community engagement.

The update

The last public exit construction begins on Dec. 12 and will:
  • Replace the bottom stairs
  • Add an underwater landing
  • Improve Americans with Disability Act accessibility
The $1.2 million project, handled by Austin Filter Systems, is expected to take approximately three months, weather permitting, according to previous reporting.

The last public exit will be closed during construction, and river traffic will be directed to exit at the Garden Street Bridge stairs. Signage will guide visitors during the closure.

Scheduled to start in January, the $1 million Landa Lake Dam project includes:
  • Concrete reinforcements
  • Erosion control measures
  • Sluice gate replacements
Work will be carried out by Dalrymple Gravel and Contracting Company, and is expected to last three months, according to the release.

As per the release, there will be minimal disruptions; however tee box No. 2 at Landa Park Golf Course will be adjusted during construction.
