The city of New Braunfels provided an update on its ongoing capital projects during a city council meeting July 15, highlighting the milestones and future plans aimed at enhancing community infrastructure and services.

The update

Currently, the city is actively managing 48 projects funded through various channels, including the 2019 and 2023 Bond Programs, as well as support from New Braunfels Economic Development Corporation and other sources, said Scott McClelland, assistant director of transportation and capital improvements.

Ongoing efforts include:Other projects, such as Goodwin Lane/Conrads Lane and Barbarosa Road/Saur Lane, are progressing through their respective design and predesign phases, laying the groundwork for future construction and improvements, McClelland said.

The breakdown


Under the 2019 Bond Program, 78% of projects are complete, McClelland said, including facilities like Fire Station 2, Fire Station 3 and the Police Headquarters.

Under the 2023 Bond Program, 22 projects are underway, with 45% of the projects through the design stages and 46% through the predesign stages.

Completion rates for projects in this program currently stand at 9%, McClelland said.

Future development initiatives, supported by NBEDC funding, include projects such as:

What's next


Looking ahead, the city plans to finalize its Capital Improvement Plan for presentation in August, continuing to prioritize projects that enhance accessibility and community connectivity, McClelland said.

McClelland said strengthening partnerships with Comal and Guadalupe counties, TxDOT and the Alamo Area Metropolitan Planning Organization will ensure coordinated efforts on regional infrastructure projects, facilitating sustainable growth and development.
