The update
Currently, the city is actively managing 48 projects funded through various channels, including the 2019 and 2023 Bond Programs, as well as support from New Braunfels Economic Development Corporation and other sources, said Scott McClelland, assistant director of transportation and capital improvements.
Ongoing efforts include:
- Expansion of Klein Road; from Walnut Avenue to FM 725, set to complete in fall of 2024
- Continued development at Zipp Family Sports Park, which is slated for construction in 2025
The breakdown
Under the 2019 Bond Program, 78% of projects are complete, McClelland said, including facilities like Fire Station 2, Fire Station 3 and the Police Headquarters.
Under the 2023 Bond Program, 22 projects are underway, with 45% of the projects through the design stages and 46% through the predesign stages.
Completion rates for projects in this program currently stand at 9%, McClelland said.
Future development initiatives, supported by NBEDC funding, include projects such as:
- Castell Avenue Drainage
- Alligator Creek Trail
Looking ahead, the city plans to finalize its Capital Improvement Plan for presentation in August, continuing to prioritize projects that enhance accessibility and community connectivity, McClelland said.
McClelland said strengthening partnerships with Comal and Guadalupe counties, TxDOT and the Alamo Area Metropolitan Planning Organization will ensure coordinated efforts on regional infrastructure projects, facilitating sustainable growth and development.
